Today was my last day off in Freetown. We went to the market and shopped around for a bit. I purchased some hair clips that i'm going to use in a craft project. We made some friends with some local boys and they showed us all around parts of Freetown i hadn't been.
After the market I got my hair done by our wonderful hair dresser Jillian. I'm so happy to have pretty hair again!
Jenny, Ben, Elizabeth and i went to visit the hospital we went to last night to sing carols. It's a very short distance from the ship. We took nail polish and in town i bought a earring, bracelet and necklace set for one of the little girls i befriended last night. When we showed up with nail polish and story books we got mobbed. Even Ben ended up painting some nails. it was quite fun. I have pictures but they are on Jenny's camera so they will be up soon. The little girl i bought the jewelry for was so delighted, she showed them to everyone who came by. Most of the kids in that ward have sickle cell anemia which is a disease i'd never really heard of before. As some of the nurses explained to me, it's a genetic disease. If you have only one copy (from mom or dad) it actually prevents malaria. If you have two copies (from both mom and dad) you get the bad effects of the disease.
After the hospital we went and played volleyball with some of the local guys at the school that is near by. I just watched because these guys were VERY good. So i protected the backpacks and water bottles of the people i came with. It was a very fun game to watch.
In other news, the ship is continuing to get very christmasy. Tonight they showed Miracle on 34th street in the International lounge. It was really fun! i love that movie!
Now i am exhausted so i will head to bed. Goodnight world :)
Which version of Miracle on 34th Street did you watch??? thanks for the news! We love you.
